Criteria:
- Level 1: 8 finished prints Level 2: 12 finished prints ADV: 15-16 finished prints
- Make more than the minimum number of finished prints so that you can choose your favorites that work well as a whole.
- Make 4-6 “plates” using the techniques we have experimented with during the Elements of Art Exploration Activities:
- Styrofoam (white foam)-line design, textures & impressions
- Stamping (colored foam)- shapes cut and arranged
- Collorgraph (cardboard) – cut and pealed, glue application, or other found textures
- Frottage (crayon rubbing) of found textures or plates
- Monoprinting (direct drawing on rolled ink)
- Stenciling/Masking designs (cut out paper, print with both the positive and negative shapes)
- Prints explore a variety of techniques (3-4 or more) – showing a different approach to each print
- Use the theme originally brainstormed as the subject of your prints (for example – “Insects” different types of bugs, bug anatomy, honeycomb patterns, leaves and trees…)
- This project will require you to let the prints dry and work back into them, you may also use other media (colored pencils, pens, water color etc. to alter the prints).
- Prints should be abstracted and layered (yet with some symbolic-realistic identifiable images)
- Choose a color scheme: neutral hues, vibrant hues, analogous colors (red, orange, yellow, blending & overlapping).
- Good craftsmanship: Avoid over inking, use even pressure to print all the way to the edges, and use multiple techniques on each print.
- Carefully mount the prints (borders are even and there is no visible glue or tape).
- Each print has a finished quality, a good sense of balance (filling the space, limited paper showing) and interesting leading lines (drawing attention to a focal point).
- The series of final prints will be carefully mounted to a large black paper. Carefully consider the arrangement of the prints, try various options before mounting the prints.
